About Us and Our Alpacas

As a small herd, our primary aim at Ashford Alpacas is to focus on quality over quantity. We began by sourcing high quality females from acclaimed herds and bloodlines as our seed stock, and choose only the best herd sires for these females, with the result that with each breeding season we see a jump in overall quality of our cria. Now some generations down the line, we are beginning to reap the benefits of these breeding decisions. Indeed, 2021 saw us scoop both top prizes at the All-Ireland SSE Alpaca Group Fleece Show, being awarded Supreme Champion Huacaya and Supreme Champion Suri!

While fibre quality is naturally of great importance to us, we place as much emphasis on other traits such as conformation, overall health, temperament, ease of birthing and successful rearing of cria. As you can imagine, each new generation is anticipated with great excitement.

Each and every one of our alpacas is a cherished member of our family and every day we work to make sure they have all their needs met in as stress-free an environment as we can give them. Biosecurity is of paramount importance on our farm; all our fields are surrounded by 2 metre high deer-proof fencing which is also buried to ensure no badgers can gain entry. All entrances have disinfectant foot baths and we operate a strict quarantine protocol for any new alpacas to the farm.
